Dance I 9/10/2012-9/11/2012

9/10/2012-9/11/2012

Do Now:
1. Dress out
2. Grab your spiral
3. Draw a line under the last spiral entry
4. Write down today’s date and following:

Objective: Student develop basic dance vocabulary demonstrating the ability to use words to describe dance activities.

  • Alignment- the placement of the body’s segments one above the other so that the ear, shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle are as close as possible to a straight line that extends through the top of the head to the floor. Proper alignment in dance allows for the greatest freedom of movement with the least amount of strain.
  • Pivot Turn- One foot steps in front of the other, and then the body pivots around back into the original position.
  • Plie (plee yeh) – In French means “folded or bent”. There is a demi-plie, or half bending, and grande-plie, or full bending, of the knees.
  • Chasse (sha say) – In French means “chased”. In dance it is a step in which one foot literally chases the other foot out of its position. (Think of doing a gallop but with straighter legs, pointed feet and taking up more space.)
5. Take spiral and a pen/pencil with you to the dance floor.
